Humidity. No stranger to Florida.
The house is 74 & it still feels sticky. That's not the temperature, that's 65% humidity, & cooling the air more won't fix it. We read the number, find out why, & tell you the cheapest fix first.
What it usually is
The system is too big
It cools fast & shuts off before it pulls the water out. Common on houses where somebody "went up a size to be safe." The fix is right sizing at replacement, or a variable speed system that runs long & slow.
Leaky return ducts
A return pulling attic air pulls attic humidity. We pressure test & seal.
Running it too cold
Keep it 72 & up. It's Florida, it'll get there.
A variable speed system
Sometimes the real fix is the equipment. A variable speed system runs long & slow instead of blasting & stopping. The coil gets very cold, the air moves across it slowly, & the water in that air condenses on the coil & goes down the drain instead of back into the room. One of our customers went from 67% to 49% with a 17 SEER Trane, same thermostat setting, same house.
It actually needs a dehumidifier
Some houses do. A whole house unit on the return, drained to the condensate line, set to 50. We say this one last, not first.
Some of it
Variable speedThe 17 SEER Trane that fixed it. Variable speed. This house went from 67% to 49% without touching the thermostat.
